About the job:

A Network Operations Center Technician is responsible for monitoring and taking corrective action on infrastructure within a 24/7/365 NOC environment. The NOC Team is responsible for supporting an IP network and related telecommunications infrastructure for Nexstream equipment.  
 
The NOC is an important component of the Service Delivery Team that handles all incoming tasks such as support and dispatch requests, technical systems alerts, resource coordination and interdepartmental communication, as well as resolving a portion of incoming support cases. This is a fastpaced role that requires a shift in focus multiple times per hour and prioritization of work on the fly. 
 
This job also requires frequent learning of new technologies, software, and best practices. Continuous personal development outside regular business hours is necessary to succeed and advance in this position.

Responsibilities: 
 
Monitor alert systems and take appropriate action 
Assist in management of the emergency process for support requests requiring escalation 
Perform fault analysis, isolation and remediation in switching, digital, optical, wireless and other technologies 
Ability to organize and prioritize work and adapt to changes quickly 
Maintain accurate records in a variety of tracking resources 
• Work with support technicians in the field and management to do whatever is necessary to provide excellent service  
Assist in coordination of the support teams to maximum utilization and improve communication 
• Act as a point of contact for all types of service requests 
• Professional and effective written and oral communication as well as excellent interpersonal skills: including telephone skills, active listening and customer-care 
• Communicate directly with customers as needed 
• Continuously develop technical skills by resolving a portion of incoming support cases to enable progression to a technical support role 
Intermediate understanding of networking technologies and components such as switches, routers and firewalls 
• Understanding of support tools, techniques, and how technology is used to provide IT services 
Committed to continuous improvement of self and the team 
Provide feedback on opportunities to improve process and workflow efficiency 
• Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast moving, team based environment. 
 
Additional Requirements: 
Participate in afterhours rotation. 
• Must be able to lift 50lbs. 
• Must pass a drug and background screening. 

Education and Experience:  

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from one-year College or technical school; or two-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience with routers and switches 
  • SNMP Experience, Basic Routing Experience, Fiber and Wireless experience 
  • Nice to Have: 
  • CCNA or Network+ (or equivalent are desirable, not required)

Physical Demands: 

 

  • Able to frequently move, transport, positions objects of 50 pounds or more. 
  • Stationary position for 8-10 hours a day 
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. 
  • Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity are necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. 
  • To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position. Daily movements include sitting, standing, operating computers and other office equipment and moving about the office.  
  • Must be able to communicate effectively via email or other digital platforms and verbally via telephone. 

 

Working Hours/Days:  

 

  • Full-time 
  • Ability to work off hours, weekends, or night shift as required to support a 24 x 7 x 365 network operations center (NOC) 

 

Travel Requirements: 

 

  • Able to travel 0-10% of the time.
