Business Need / Purpose of Role
To drive outstanding marine service delivery through active engagement with internal / external customers and stakeholders.
- Responsibility for the marine services operations in Indonesia, implementing Area and Regional operations process and procedures, aligned to Global operations policies, to deliver sustainable business growth and profit:
- To deliver robust and sustainable business profit through optimization, efficiency, and business effectiveness.
- To ensure that the right marine services management and skills are recruited, developed, and retained.
- To ensure the appropriate governance, safety and controls are established and implemented to adhere to group policy and local statutory requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Area Operations Strategy, Leadership and Coordination
- Together with the AGM – SEA, develop a robust operational plan to ensure delivery and execution of the marine services operations in the Area.
- Manage, empower, and support the respective Marine Services Managers and Teams to deliver against business objectives for sustainable business profit.
- Build strong working relationships with internal & external customers and stakeholders to win and retain business.
- Ensure suitable performance management strategies are in place to maximise Team delivery.
- Restructure and optimize the business where needed for profitability.
- Work with the respective Marine Services Managers to ensure fair and equitable management of employees throughout the regional organisation.
- Focus on the continuous improvement of marine services processes and procedures.
- Prepare reports for senior management as required.
Operations
- Travel throughout the Area on a regular basis, taking the necessary management initiatives to be accountable for ensuring that the marine services operations are meeting the QHSSE standards, operating safely, delivering the agreed business results and meeting customer and stakeholder expectations.
- Be an active ambassador for a continuous business improvement culture, driving the implementation of Area, Regional and Group wide projects linked to service delivery and service excellence.
- Accountable and responsible for service level performance within the ports of the Area.
- Ensure the highest levels of Customer Service Delivery.
- Ensure service delivery of all applicable product lines are as per agreed Service Level Agreements and ISS Standards across the Area.
- Actively drive weekly / monthly dialogues across Area operations to ensure that marine services operational targets for the region are being achieved.
- Ensure that QHSSE regulations are understood, fully incorporated and implemented effectively.
- Ensure that operational processes are in accordance with governance and standards, values and ethics of ISS.
- Accountable for the proper management of Marine Service Partners (sub agents) within the Area
- Area vendor and supplier management in collaboration with ISS strategic sourcing team, in accordance with ISS vendor requirements.
- Deliver Area productivity targets and cost rationalization.
- Ensure managers are accountable for their respective overheads, and that they are correctly authorized and deployed.
- Ensure managers are delivering high quality and timely issuance of invoices and collection.
- Ensure smooth migration of functions to central facilities e.g.: CSC and D/A Centres.
- Revue and ensure appropriate appointment and relationship of Sub Agents within the Area.
- Support or participate in regional and global projects as required.
Account management
- Engage with customers to grow share of market and drive revenue.
- Build key stake-holder relationships with clients.
Transformation Projects
- Lead agreed Area transformation initiatives as agreed with the AGM- SEA and Group Chief Operations Officer.
- Act as an ambassador for Marine Services Operations, facilitating process change or transition of activities.
- Promote and share best practices in Area & Regional transformation initiatives.
Commercial
- Working closely with Commercial, pursue and win Area and Regional commercial opportunities, participate in the process of selling to clients around the world and provide information and leads to Commercial to support additional wins, improved pricing, and product development
- Price the respective local customer business in the Area, within authority limits and policies issued by Commercial.
People
- Support, empower, communicate, train, and advise the Marine Services Managers and staff in the Area to ensure delivery against agreed objectives.
- Build a strong pipeline of Marine Services talent.
- Execute Talent retention and succession planning initiatives in conjunction with Regional and Area HR.
- Support, communicate and advise Marine Services Managers on their talent development initiatives.
Performance Management
- Coordinate the performance management of Marine Services Managers in the Area, including job description formulation, assessments, and promotions.
- Agree and action necessary performance improvement and disciplinary procedures, with the support from Regional and Area HR
- Implement performance appraisals, training, and feedback in line with Regional/Global HR Standards.
- Drive a performance culture, and act as counsel where required to Marine Services Managers in the Area on all issues of employee performance.
Legal and Compliance Practices
- Ensures up to date Marine Services Operations Policy in the Area, and that policies are in line with local legislation and group policy.
- Continual policy and process development and amending and implementing policies and procedures in line with employment law regulation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Relevant Marine Services experience in the shipping industry, with the ability to run a cost-efficient operation.
- In depth understanding of port agency operations and market dynamics of the shipping industry
- Excellent understanding of Quality/Compliance & HSSE regulations
- Excellent work ethic and proven grounding of discretion and confidentiality.
- Commercially Astute
- Ability to lead teams remotely and the ability to adjust communication style for different situations and cultures.
- 10+ years of experience in Marine Services Operations, with at least 4 years at a Managerial role, with suitable international operations experience in a shipping / port services environment.
- Experience with managing change programmes across dispersed entities, help to drive change in a matrix environment.
