Greenhouse Technicians are responsible for sorting, moving, and packing plants in Micro Paradox’s greenhouses, shade houses, and screen houses. Candidates for this position should have a good work ethic, a positive attitude, and be comfortable working outside or in partially exposed structures throughout the year. Greenhouse Technician responsibilities may vary based on seasonal demands, requiring flexibility and an openness to learning a variety of tasks.

About Us

Micro Paradox is a tissue culture and micropropagation laboratory that provides clean nursery stock and young plants to commercial nurseries in the United States and abroad. Plants produced by Micro Paradox are disease-free, uniform, and true-to-type. We also provide related tissue culture services such as germplasm maintenance, virus eradication, embryo rescue, and other custom projects.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the position will include:

• Sort trays of plants, identifying and removing unhealthy or non-conforming specimens
• Transport plants on large benches between different greenhouses while ensuring minimal disruption to plant growth and development, following established protocols to prevent cross-contamination
• Sort and organize plant trays according to specific criteria such as plant type, health status, and height
• Prepare plants for shipping by boxing and/or bare-rooting them, applying pre-shipment treatments, placing them in appropriate shipping racks, and loading racks onto shipping trucks
• Assist with plant care by watering, applying fertilizer, pruning, up-potting plants, and related tasks as needed
• Meet quality and speed targets for assigned crops or tasks
• Routinely handle and manipulate both small, delicate plants and larger potted plants
• Accurately follow production and plant handling procedures
• Correctly use, sterilize, and follow use protocols for production tools, including forceps, shears, trowels, and power tools
• Use industrial equipment such as agricultural machinery, forklifts, low-speed vehicles, and trolleys as needed
• Keep work area organized and clean
• Assist with grounds maintenance as needed, including weed control and tending to landscaping
• Adhere to established safety protocols
• Communicate effectively with team lead and supervisor
• Related duties as assigned

Key Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Fluent in written and spoken English, Spanish, and/or Punjabi
• Able to follow training and instructions
• Able to carry out routine work with minimal supervision
• Able to work with hands, stand, walk, sit, stoop, and bend for extended hours
• Able to work in severe weather conditions when required
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs
