Job Title   Assistant Manager

FLSA Hourly

Summary:

The Assistant Manager works in conjunction in all areas of the retail store and sorting facility. Work in conjunction with the Sorting Supervisor to maximize collections, production, salvage and donor service. This position is 40 hours/week with one weekend shift.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Assistant Store Manager:

Proper processing and separation of incoming donations, salvage and waste.

Ensure assigned facility maximizes used goods processing through proper application of Production Standards: sorting, preparing and pricing items for sale. Ensure production goals are met or exceeded on a consistent basis.

Ensure maximum sales performance through proper stock rotation, display, signage and inventory levels. Ensure the store meets or exceeds sales goals on a consistent basis.

Ensure the facility is presenting quality guest service in a timely and courteous manner to all guest, donors and team members.

Act as a liaison between the animal care center and the volunteer coordinator.

Assure that proper attention is given to floor appearance, cleanliness and shopping environment including but not limited to: floor care, fitting rooms, cash register areas, aisles, trash  cans, lights, restrooms, glass showcases, window ledges, and doors. Ensure that doors, odor control, NCR equipment, fire extinguishers and restrooms are in proper working order.

Maintain the appearance of the building exterior and parking lot, including but not limited to: windows, doors, sidewalks, parking lot lights, dumpster area, landscape, shopping cart retrieval, store entry and signage,

Maintain a clean and orderly production environment. Ensure machinery and/ or devises are in proper working order

Loss Prevention

Keep facility clean and free of safety hazards. Ensure that safety procedures are understood and followed by all staff and facility employees.

Ensure loss prevention matters are reported, investigated and correct in a timely manner.

Ensure proper operation of facility security including but not limited to: door locks, alarms, office door, bank deposits, refund, safe and incident reports. Ensure proper cash handling, enforcement of the register procedures, and submission of required reports.

Miscellaneous Duties:

Hire, training, evaluating, ad managing retail and sorting teams so as to provide and an efficient and effective work force. Maintain morale of work force

Ensure store reports, personnel status changes, and volunteer program information are communicated accurately and in a timely manner.

Effectively manage the assigned retail and sorting facility to ensure proper adherence to organizational and departmental policies, procedures and standards. Ensure proper utilization of Human Resources (HR) to effectively maintain discipline.

Incidental Functions

Other duties related as assigned.

 

Additional Expectations

Available to work flexible work schedule consistent of opening and closing the store, weekends when required based off of business needs.

Attend meeting scheduled by the Store Director

Properly wear and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Assure facility compliance with all health, safety and fire standards, and all local, state, and federal regulations (WISHA and OSHA)

Maintain agency confidentiality. Violation of confidentially is cause for termination.

Better Together Animal Alliance has zero tolerance for drug/alcohol use and theft of company property including donations.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

Manage team members in the Retail and Sorting Facility.

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibility to include: interviewing, hiring and training team members, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems with the assistants of the Director.

 

Qualifications:

Education and/ or Experience:

Four year Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Three to four years related production/retail management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, board of directors. Management team, guests and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:  

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, commons fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations =. Ability to prioritize constantly changing goals and objectives. Ability to accomplish multiple task assignments in a fast paced work environment.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, inventory software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. Demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must successfully pass credit and background checks. Current Drivers License.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to demonstrate willingness and ability to adhere to Better Together Animal Alliance rules, directives, policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety.
