About the job:

Position Description:

The Behavioral Health Case Manager provides assistances to the clinicians/counselors within the Behavioral Health Department. In addition to initially contacting clients about services and/or benefits, the case manager follows up with clients to ensure they are receiving the intended services and those services are meeting the clients’ needs. The Case Manager works under the direction of the BH Director and clinicians.

Position Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma is required.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of experience working in a behavioral health or substance use environment.
  • Specialized Skills: Strong customer services skills, computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, etc.), written and oral communication skills, time management skills and ability to multitask with a positive attitude.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Certification in the behavioral health, chemical dependency, or social service field is strongly preferred; Yup’ik language knowledge preferred.

Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Behavioral Health Specific Duties:

  • Working knowledge of evidence-based treatments for medical and behavioral health conditions.
  • Ability to work through brief client contacts, including telephone and video-teleconferencing.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team, interacting with clients, primary care providers and clinicians, consulting psychiatrist and mental health specialists, as well as with administrative and support staff.
  • Ability to exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, and to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a calm, consistent and equitable manner.
  • Assistance provided to help determine the needs of the client.
  • Ability to effectively represent BFC interests in the community and maintain effective working relationships among co-workers and public, private and professional groups.
  • Research abilities to assist clients in services such as food stamps and Medicaid services.
  • Help clients’ complete paperwork to apply necessary for treatment and other resources.
  • On-going client follow-up to ensure services are provided appropriately.

General Administrative Assistant Duties:

  • Type reports, memos, letters and other documents using word relevant computer software.
  • Answer phone calls and direct calls to appropriate parties or take messages.
  • Record, type and distribute meeting minutes.
  • Greet visitors and determine whether they should be given access to specific individuals.
  • Read and analyze incoming memos, submissions and reports to determine their significance and plan their distribution.
  • Perform general office duties such as ordering supplies and maintaining records management database systems.
  • File and retrieve corporate documents, records and reports.
  • Open, sort and distribute incoming correspondence, including faxes and email.
  • Make travel arrangements for Behavioral Health clients.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This position works in an inpatient mental care facility. There will be frequent interaction with persons who are mentally ill, disabled, elderly and emotionally upset.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes. The employee’s vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The position requires good manual dexterity.
