The Weitz Company is currently accepting applications for various levels of Estimators to be located in Des Moines, IA to join our Mission Critical team. This candidate should have experience viewing and understanding plans, project management skills, performing take-offs and tabulating sub-bids.
Estimators support the estimating team by preparing complete portions of an estimate for construction projects. They are responsible for profitably managing all administrative and field construction activities to quality standards, while maintaining relationships with all stake holders on assigned projects. This position will provide leadership and directions to superintendents overseeing field personnel including self-performing work, subcontractors, and clients for both plant service/maintenance work and capital project work.
What You’ll Do:
Estimator I:
- Quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, compiling cost history, and preparing systems comparisons
- Quick creative thinking and the capability of meeting deadlines
- Strong understanding of self-perform work including: equipment installation (millwright), structural steel, and concrete and piping installation
- Ability to compare and analyze various systems and related cost impacts
- Other duties as assigned
- Business travel may be required
Estimator II:
- Quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, compiling cost history, and preparing systems comparisons
- Quick creative thinking and the capability of meeting deadlines
- Develop constructability review and identify potential risks inherent to the project
- Organize subcontractor and vendor solicitation as directed
- Participate in or assist with Supply Chain procurement plan process
- Generate schematic estimates of projects assigned. Pricing based on historical data and adjusting pricing as needed to allow for project conditions
- Research and prepare cost analysis reports
- Obtain the review of owner contracts, and general and supplementary conditions by the company’s risk management group
- Ability to compare and analyze various systems and related cost impacts
- Other duties as assigned
- Business travel may be required
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: An industry-related college degree is highly preferred. High school diploma is required.
- Experience: Previous internship experience in a construction role with exposure to estimating is preferred for an Estimator I. Six (6) years of construction estimating responsibility is required for the Estimator II level. Experience in a fast-paced environment, proven history of producing quality work products on time, accurately, completely, and in an organized fashion. A proven history of leading, teaching, developing and mentoring others successfully.
- Skills: Business acumen, solid leadership, communication, time management, project management, estimating, judgment, decision-making, relationship building, organization, initiative, problem solving, analytical, and multi-tasking are all necessary skills for this role.
- Technology: Candidate be familiar or proficient in Procore, Prolog, P6, or similar project management/scheduling software, depending on their years in the industry. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Training will be provided on company standards.
