New Zealand needs to build a skilled workforce and ATNZ are currently looking for mechanically minded individuals who want to start a career in Mechanical Engineering by launching into a Level 3 Fluid Power Certificate. We are recruiting a paid technician position for a Fluid Power Engineering Certificate with our host company located in Wellington.   
  
If successful you will be employed by ATNZ and assigned to this host company where you will receive valuable on-the-job  training while studying to gain a crucial certificate utilised by many mechanical engineering businesses. 
   

What is a Fluid Power Engineering Certificate?  
Fluid Power uses hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems to transmit energy via pressurised fluids, enabling efficient mechanical operations in various industries. This NZQA-approved programme aims to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge, understanding, and practical skills to work as Fluid Power Technicians. Upon completion of the programme, graduates will have the capability to perform a defined range of fundamental Fluid Power tasks with limited supervision.

Why should I study it?

This certificate may lead into apprenticeships in mechanical engineering, such as the New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Trade) (Level 4) with strands in Fitting and Machining, General Engineering, Machining, Maintenance Engineering, Metal Forming, and Toolmaking.

FAQ’s: 

• How long will a level 3 fluid power certificate take to complete?    
  65 weeks.
   

• How much does this position pay?   
  It varies between host companies. But the average annual salary for most of our apprentices is $41’000-$52’000. You may receive a higher or lower amount than this bracket depending on your skill level and the financial ability of the host company.   

• Is there an upper age limit?   
  None. Anyone aged 16 or over with the right to permanently live and work in New Zealand is allowed to undertake an apprenticeship.  
   

• Do I need my own tools?   
  Some companies provide tools, while others require you to have your own. It is always good to build a supply of your own for the future.  One of the benefits of being employed directly by ATNZ is we offer our apprentices interest-free loans for tools.  
   

• What qualifications do I need to get an ATNZ apprenticeship or level 3 certificate?   
  No qualifications are necessary. We are looking for people with a great attitude and a good work ethic who want to be hands-on and earn something they are passionate about.  
   

• Are there any fees?   
  No. The only foreseeable thing you will need to pay for would be tools. Not all companies supply these themselves.   
   

• What happens if my host company does not have enough work for me?   
  Another advantage of being employed directly by ATNZ is that if your host company can’t continue employing you for whatever reason, we will do our best to place you with another host company.
