Job Description: Geometry Teacher for High School

Position Overview: The Geometry Teacher at International High of New Orleans works collaboratively within the Mathematics Department under the leadership of the CEO/HOS  and Academic Dean in alignment with the goals of the International Baccalaureate Program. The role involves planning and delivering effective instructional programs that foster academic growth and development among high school students.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership:

• Develop and implement comprehensive schemes of work and lesson plans in accordance with curriculum guidelines.
• Set clear objectives for all learning activities and communicate them effectively to students.
• Utilize a variety of instructional materials and resources to enhance learning experiences.
• Monitor and assess student performance, providing constructive feedback and support as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and development.
• Manage classroom behavior and uphold disciplinary standards in accordance with school policies.

Strategic Planning:

• Design and deliver instructional activities that promote active student engagement and academic achievement.
• Prepare and submit necessary reports on student progress and classroom activities.
• Adapt instructional methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and special needs.

Resource Management:

• Participate actively in departmental meetings, school events, and parent conferences.
• Utilize technology effectively to support teaching and learning initiatives.
• Collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional practices and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational trends and best practices.

Advocacy:

• Stay informed about developments in the field of geometry education and adjust instructional plans accordingly.
• Support extracurricular activities and student organizations to enrich the school community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution (required).
• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certification or eligibility for one.
• Preferably 2+ years of teaching experience in a high school setting.

Skills:

• Proficiency in relevant educational technology.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English; additional language proficiency preferred.
• Strong work ethic with effective multitasking and time management skills.
• Familiarity with developmentally appropriate practices in secondary education.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Work Conditions:

• Ability to lift up to 65 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending and stooping.
• Mobility to ensure student safety, including navigating stairs and outdoor environments.
• Visual and auditory capabilities necessary for student supervision.
• Ability to perform light cleaning and administrative tasks as required.

Other Requirements:

• Valid Louisiana Driver’s License.
• Fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
