Junior Designer

Position Description

Hanson is seeking an entry-level Visual Designer who will be responsible for developing and supporting creative across a range of channels. The Visual Designer will develop interface designs, collateral, advertisements, etc. while working closely with a Creative Director to understand the creative vision of the project. This position will work collaboratively with project teams consisting of project managers, copywriters, strategists, web developers, and more. We’re looking for a creative thinker with a great eye for design, a passion for delivering great concepts, and the ability to process feedback to make their work even stronger. Sound like you? This position reports to either the Managing Director of Creative Services or an Associate Creative Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Core Responsibilities

  • Works with the Creative Leads, Copywriters, Strategists, Business Analysts and Account Managers to create visual designs that satisfy all defined functionality and business needs
  • Creates visually relevant and engaging designs through both static and motion design concepts
  • Assists Creative Leads and Strategists in the development of visual brand identities for client partners
  • Demonstrates and develops a strong understanding for appropriate use of type, layout and color theory as they correspond with client brands
  • Works with all team members to achieve on-time and on-budget results for the tasks they are assigned
  • Confidently presents creative concepts and designs to internal audiences for feedback and revisions
  • Maintains impeccable craftsmanship to ensure that designs are polished and finished prior to routing them to Director and Account Managers for client review
  • Monitors progress of key day-to-day tasks and provides consistent updates to the Project Manager, Creative Leads and Traffic Lead
  • Keeps up to date on design trends, sharing with the team for everyone’s benefit

 

 Collaboration & Contribution

  • Provides value across the full creative department in the effective communication of overall design
  • Supports production team in understanding of creative vision as it relates to assigned tasks during projects
  • Participates actively in internal group sessions to bring value and advance projects
  • Participates in meetings to communicate creative ideas as well as final design for all digital solutions

Communication

  • Uses all channels of communication appropriately (e.g., in-person, phone, email, IM, etc.) to drive design and collaboration
  • Communicates proactively vs. reactively in order to manage their work against budgets and deadlines
  • Provides effective, productive feedback in the moment

Problem Solving

  • Responds to changes in direction and other client and internal dynamics with flexibility and resourcefulness
  • Takes an idea and turns it into a meaningful story through illustrations and other visual executions
  • Manages conflict resolution appropriately, and drives team to collaborative solutions — especially during Experience Design phase

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years of experience in visual design; ideally, you will have worked in a digital agency for a minimum of 2 years (but not a requirement)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in critical creative applications (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Canva)
  • We are a digital agency, so you’ll need to have experience in understanding technology and digital solutions including website and mobile app design
  • Previous experience providing creative content including brand, marketing and UI/UX design for digital solutions
  • An understanding of motion design and how to visually express ideas through motion
  • Experience with video execution and other production tools is a nice-to-have
