About the job:

Privately owned since its inception in 1911 and headquartered in Burlington, Ontario, Canada – Thordon is a global leader in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of pollution-free, non-metallic bearing and seal systems.

 

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Manufacturing, Maintenance & Project Management, this person will be responsible for leading the maintenance group to make sure production and facility equipment function safely with maximum up-time and highest level of quality.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the efficient operation of all plant equipment.
  • Repairing and maintaining all types of production equipment and facility equipment.
  • Supporting and driving the implementation of any improvement initiatives.
  • Participate and support the implementation of any new equipment.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a preventative maintenance program on production equipment and building to ensure that any planned preventive repairs are scheduled in accordance with production schedules.
  • Overseeing and directing as required plant projects including those involving outside contractors.
  • Ensuring that the plant is in compliance with Federal, Provincial and Municipal regulations.
  • Coordinate PM, spare parts, repair and rebuild of machines.
  • Update and direct weekly maintenance open items and provide updates to key stake holders in a timely manner.
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Senior Manager Manufacturing, Maintenance & Project Management,
  • Must work strictly in compliance with all Health & Safety requirements.
  • Inspect, adjust HVAC equipment to ensure proper operating conditions.
  • Re-building vacuum and glycol pumps as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining facility air compressors.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed Millwright.
  • 5+ years’ experience in maintaining industrial equipment.
  • Strong hands-on experience in electrical troubleshooting, HVAC equipment, plumbing, welding, vacuum pumps, glycol pumps and plant electrical.
  • Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Experience working with chemical process machines is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of MS-office, AutoCAD and CMMS.
  • PLS knowledge and experience is an asset.
  • Must be familiar with Lock-out/Tag-out procedures

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job the employee is subject to the conditions of a manufacturing environment such as: dirt, noise, fumes, heat and outside weather conditions.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, bend, pull, kneel, climb and sometimes may be required to work in an uncomfortable position. This employee is also subjected to lifting and bending – approx. 75% of the day.  The maintenance millwright will frequently handle, lift, carry and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to speak effectively to sub-contractors or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and also as a team
  • Requires good judgement and a professional demeanour
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Familiar with plant operation and equipment
