The Alaska Center is seeking an energetic community connector to help strengthen and build our ecosystem of environment, labor union, and community partners to advance our vision of a Just Transition for Alaska. The Partnerships Coordinator will act as The Alaska Center’s lead in key climate and clean energy coalition spaces and will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with partner organizations; attending, scheduling, and facilitating coalition meetings; and identifying and bringing in key partners and stakeholder groups into our climate and clean energy campaigns. This is a two-year grant-funded position. Employment after the grant cycle is not guaranteed.

Organizational Overview:

The Alaska Center engages, empowers, and elects Alaskans to stand up for clean air and

We advocate for the protection of salmon habitat, clean energy solutions in the face of rapid climate change, and amplifying Alaskans’ voices in the public process. Our sister organization The Alaska Center Education Fund provides education and leadership development for children and youth, and promotes civic engagement.

Climate and Clean Energy Campaign Overview:

Our “Clean Energy for All Alaskans” initiative advances equitable climate policies, supports clean energy programs, defends against harmful legislation, and amplifies Alaskans’ voices in public processes around energy democracy, while centering those who are most impacted by climate change. Our climate and clean energy issue priorities are; Passing a Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard, ensuring fair labor standards are incorporated into clean energy legislation, engaging member-owners of railbelt utilities on issues of renewable energy and transparency, electing pro-renewable energy utility board members, and supporting local climate action plans. Our overarching goal is a Just Transition for Alaska.

Coalitions and Partnerships:

The key coalitions this role will be responsible for engaging with are: Just Transition Collective (JTC): An intersectional cohort working to incorporate just transition principles into Alaska’s energy advocacy landscape. Alaska Climate Alliance (ACA): A group of 50+ organizations and more than 120 participants united by our desire to align Alaska’s climate action community. And Alaska Labor/Environmental Alliance: An emerging coalition of labor and environmental organizations working to ensure that the energy transition in Alaska centers worker safety and community wellbeing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with current partners and identify potential new partnerships by meeting with organizations 1:1 and maintaining strong lines of communication with partners.
  • Grow coalition spaces by identifying stakeholder organizations who share our priorities and bringing them into the fold. With a focus on marginalized and impacted communities.
  • Coordinate and implement strategies to mobilize our partners and community leaders during legislative sessions towards policy wins on our shared priorities.
  • Report out to the rest of staff on coalition meetings and keep the rest of the team updated on coalition goals.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven experience in relationship building across lines of difference or power.

  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well independently and on a team.
  • Ability to inspire action in others, lead by example, and instill purpose into daily campaign operations of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and solution-based approach in high-pressure or difficult situations.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience facilitating meetings or workshops with participants who have varied perspectives and experiences.
  • Experience with Voter Action Network (VAN), EveryAction (EA) and affiliated databases.
  • Experience with Google-Suite platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, respond quickly to emerging opportunities, and be flexible to adapt to changing circumstances.
