Position Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Estimator.
This position is responsible for the day to day preparation of assigned estimates. You will be responsible for coordinating the internal project team and trade partners to produce estimates at various milestones in the design process.
This person will work with available plans, specifications and related data to arrive at conceptual and final cost estimates for projects.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Present estimates to clients and reconcile estimates with the client’s consulting estimator.
- Read and interpret all contract documents.
- Examine field conditions for proposed job location and photograph.
- Set up estimates using computerized estimating software.
- Take off material quantities in preparation of job estimates.
- Determine material costs, analyze equipment utilization, and apply labor productivities and wage rates, using estimating software.
- Contact subcontractors for bid, and receive and evaluate bid prices.
- Distribute plans to subcontractors and vendors and resolve bid questions they may have.
- Assist Estimators with resolving questions.
- Interpret estimated items for field personnel.
- Assist Chief Estimator on day of bid in compiling final pricing and preparing breakdown of final estimate.
- Assist Project Managers with pricing change order work.
- Assist project team with subcontractor and vendor buyout questions.
Position Qualifications
- Professional communication skills, including the ability to present estimates to clients/owners in a polished manner.
- Broad knowledge of construction and estimating practices.
- Judgment required to plan work, analyze, assemble data and determine proper action to be taken within limits of standard practice.
- Capable of using computers and the necessary software required by the position, including the ability to learn new software.
- Ability to manage time and workload to meet strict deadlines.
Education & Experience
- Broad knowledge of estimating practices and procedures.
- Familiar with construction -practices and techniques.
- Equivalent to a college education.
- 8-10 years construction experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam/Adobe. Experience with estimating software and Onscreen Takeoff preferred.
Working Conditions
Majority of time spent working in office environment with minimal time spent visiting jobsites.
