The global shipping industry is massive, complex, and has largely been done the same way for decades without much change or innovation. The lack of digital innovation and infrastructure in the global shipping space results in poor visibility, missed deadlines, and lost revenue for all parties involved. 

NYSHEX is building the digital infrastructure for global shipping. Our technology platform unites the entire ocean freight supply chain into a reliable, efficient, and trusted system for global commerce. Our solution helps Shippers, Carriers, and NVOCCs improve performance, strengthen relationships and reduce manual workload. 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

As a Senior Product Designer at NYSHEX, you will be a pivotal player in creating, executing, and owning advanced product design solutions for a portfolio of NYSHEX’s products. You will ensure our users have a seamless and efficient experience using NYSHEX’s platform by applying your expertise in system design and strategic design leadership. You’ll collaborate extensively with our Product and Engineering teams. You will develop a deep knowledge of our industry, business, customers, and users, translating that knowledge into insights that drive strategic design decision-making. Furthermore, you will manage and evolve our design system, ensuring it matures and adapts with the organization. 

This is a full-time role reporting directly to our Director of Product, in Copenhagen. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

In this role, you will: 

• Own and drive the creation of design solutions that excite NYSHEX’s customers and users, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs. 

• Provide strategic design leadership, influencing product direction, and driving innovation across the organization. 

• Lead design sessions and build prototypes to test new concepts, validating them through user testing and iterative feedback. 

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design solutions that excite both NYSHEX’s internal users and customers. 

• Build high-fidelity designs and work with Product and Engineering teams to translate initial designs into pixel-perfect user experiences. 

• Manage and evolve our design system, ensuring it scales and adapts to the needs of the organization. 

• Host design review sessions to solicit feedback and continuously improve the quality of the Product Design function at NYSHEX. 

• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in product design and user experience. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

You are a great candidate for this role if you have: 

• 8+ years of experience working on technology-powered products, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work. 
• Extensive experience in ocean shipping and logistics, with a demonstrated track record of working at a carrier, Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC), or shipper, preferably in roles that required cross-functional collaboration and operational expertise.

• High proficiency with digital design and software prototyping tools, ideally Figma. 

• A demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery. 

• Experience designing for responsive web apps. 

• In-depth knowledge of typography, iconography, color theory, accessibility standards, and guidelines. 

• A genuine interest in learning about the different areas of our platform and its users – both internal and external. 

• A desire to work collaboratively with engineers, product managers, and other key stakeholders to deliver high-quality design content. 

• Excellent presentation and documentation skills; ability to articulate design rationale and goals clearly. 

You are an exceptional candidate for this role if you also have: 

• Formal education (BA, MA, etc.) in Human–Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Design Engineering, Industrial or Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline. 

• Extensive experience working in and/or owning a Design System for Product Design. 

• Proven track record of leading design initiatives in dynamic, fast-paced tech start-up environments. 

• Advanced problem-solving skills and a strategic mindset, capable of navigating complex design challenges.
