Senior Ultrasound Specialist

Job purpose

As part of the ultrasound group and core technology research at dolphitech, the ultrasound specialist should participate and/or be responsible for work in transducer design, transducer production, ultrasound laboratory, ultrasound modelling, signal processing, measurements etc. The position could be technical lead in projects where new transducer designs or NDT applications are being evaluated. The position could supervise and support transducer production team. As part of the ultrasound group and as a senior, the position should help push the transducer technology. The position should also develop and investigate (new) techologies related to ultrasound imaging, and also support and guide the R&D team.

Duties and responsibilities

There are several ultrasound and transducer spesialists, and the tasks for each employee will vary within this field. But the ultrasound group shall together make sure all this duties and responsibilities are covered.

• Transducer Technology and Design

• Invastigating new transducer technology and designs designs that are optimal for transmitting and receiving acoustical signals needed for dolphitech products technology. Dolphitech core technology is based on row-column-addressed (2D array / matrix) transducer technology
• Study, evaluate and test different coupling materials as well as backing material and solutions
• Study, evaluate and test different materials used in transducer design
• Manufacture prototype transducers, characterize them, and help production ramp up

• Transducer Production 

• Help implement processes, techniques, tools, in transducer manufacturing (clean-room)
• Supporting transducer production team
• Setting performance requirements for the various transducers based on system performance needed

• • Supervising transducer parameter trends
  • Specifying measurements and tests needed to secure transducer quality
  • Making procedures for transducer production and keeping these up to date
  • Improvements in transducer production to secure low failure rate
  • Planning procurement, getting quotes and ordering materials used in transducer production
  • Making procedures for quality control of transducer parts

• Project Manager / Technical Lead of new features/products/applications  that involves ultrasound development
  • Examples: wrinkle detection, adhesive bonding, porosity measurement, corrosion, capability study, coupling-systems/solutions.

• Ultrasound Laboratory
  • Help and/or lead operation and maintenance of our ultrasound laboratory

• Ultrasound simulations:
  • Design and investigate ultrasound imaging methods,
  • Wavefield simulations for designing (and investigating) transducers etc.

• Signal processing algorithm development:
  • Ultrasound beamforming
  • Detection methods
  • Filtering methods

• Update R&D team on new findings & technology improvements
• Close communication with “Group leader of Ultrasound and transducer technology group” and Chief Research Officer, on plan and priority of ultrasound development

Qualifications

• Technical Masters degree or PhD within ultrasound, acoustics, signal processing and/or transducer design/production

• Ultrasound modelling, statistical signal processing, ultrasound array imaging
• Knowledge within ultrasound electronics
• Programming skills (C/C++/CpenCL [GPU]/Matlab/Octave/Python/Bash etc)
• Research or development skills
• Knowledge within NDT (non destructive testing) ultrasound

Working conditions

• Job requires regular working hours and over time if needed accordingly.
