Trails Coordinator

The Town of Essex, Vermont is seeking a Trails Coordinator to coordinate the management and enhancement of municipal-owned lands and approved easements throughout the Town of Essex, with a particular focus on trails. The Trails Coordinator will plan, develop, and coordinate trail maintenance and projects. The Trails Coordinator will make all community trails and open spaces more known and welcoming to the public through accurate, easy to understand, and readily accessible information, including but not limited to mapping and wayfinding. The person in the role will explore the development of a volunteer trail caretaker program as well as act as the Parks and Recreation staff liaison for the Conservation & Trails Committee.

This position works under the direction of the Parks Maintenance Superintendent. The Trails Coordinator position is governed by the Town of Essex Personnel Guidelines and works in accordance with all town policies. In general, the regular work hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a 28 hour per week position, so the schedule can be flexible depending on the needs of the employee and the Town. Attendance at night meetings and after hour programs will be required as needed.

This position requires three years of progressive experience in trail and/or park management, development, construction, and maintenance. An Associate’s degree or higher in natural resource management, environmental sciences, GIS, recreation management and administration, park management and administration, engineering or a related field is preferred.

This position is a non-union position with a starting salary of $20-$25/hour, depending on relevant experience.
