About the job:
Position Summary: Manages all treasury and accounting processes for Adventist Media Ministries. Directs and supervises treasury staff. Provides leadership, administration and oversight of all Treasury, accounting, and financial reporting operations of the Adventist Media Ministries Support Services (AMMSS) and DBA Ministries.
Authority & Accountability: Authority as delegated by the NAD Officers and AMC Board of Directors. Responsible for treasury and accounting activities — in accordance with Adventist Media Ministries (AMM) and Support Services policies and objectives.
Essential Position Functions:
- Reports directly to the North American Division and carries responsibility for administering the treasury and accounting services for all Adventist Media Ministries.
- Directs and supervises AMM Support Services treasury/accounting staff.
- Oversees and administers banking services for all Adventist Media Ministries.
- Manages centralized investment pool and cash management.
- Coordinates and supervises all aspects of accounting and reporting functions.
- Communicates regularly with Adventist Media Ministry leaders in shaping business services to meet specific needs.
- Attends and participates in board meetings, executive committees, and administrative committees.
- Travels for work-related meetings and on-location ministry visits.
- Conducts research and makes recommendations for various financial, accounting and tax issues.
- Oversees annual budget process for Adventist Media Ministries and Support Services.
- Manages all financial audit processes.
- Initiates and oversees reporting to government agencies.
- Facilitates application of corporate structure and maintains corporate documents.
- Functions as Office Manager for the Riverside location.
- Must be able to perform the specific position functions as listed below.

Specific Position Functions:
- Directs and supervises AMM Support Services treasury/accounting staff.
- Establishes and guides accounting processes in compliance with GAAP for non-profit organizations.
- Provides knowledge, training and technical guidance as needed.
- Determines staffing needs and hires new staff members.
- Deals with personnel challenges in consultation with Human Resources.
- Manages work schedules, mediates staff disputes, and provides performance feedback.
- Conducts periodic staff meetings.
- Oversees and administers banking services for all Adventist Media Ministries.
- Responsible for maintenance of centralized bank accounts.
- Sets up and maintains bank signatories.
- Primary signer on all Adventist Media Center bank accounts.
- Manages user access and security for online corporate banking.
- Facilitates cashier’s checks as needed.
- Assists with integration of all merchant accounts with banking and accounting processes (i.e. Credit Card, PayPal, Square, Amazon.com, Facebook, etc.)
- Facilitates ministry requests to link payment applications to corporate bank accounts/sub-accounts.
- Negotiates and implements new banking services where needed.
- Manages centralized investment pool and cash management.
- Develops and maintains Adventist Media Center investment policy in harmony with NAD working policy.
- Manages investment portfolio and performs investment analysis.
- Oversees accounting for all investment realized/unrealized gains/losses.

- Coordinates and supervises all aspects of accounting and reporting functions.
- Works with accounting staff in establishing standards, guidelines, and procedures for accomplishment of accounting functions.

- Implements and monitors financial statement structures.
- Oversees and reviews production and distribution of monthly, quarterly. and annual financial statements.
- Tracks, reviews, and participates in the preparation of various account reconciliations.
- Coordinates with HR Director in approving service contracts.
- Conducts periodic reviews of ministry financial statements.
- Communicates regularly with Adventist Media Ministry leaders in shaping business services to meet specific needs.
- Corresponds regularly with ministry leaders and staff via email.
- Initiates and responds to requests for discussion on new ministry programs that require new or revised business processes.
- Sends year-end reminders and special instructions for ministry data entry and book-keeping personnel.
- Encourages ministry compliance with North American Division policies and government laws and regulations.
- Assists with ministry special project requests.
- Attends and participates in board meetings, executive committees, and administrative committees.
- Ministry Executive Committees and the AMC Board of Trustees
- Member of AMMSS Operating Committee, Building Services Committee, LifeTalk Radio House Committee, Advisory Committee.
- Invitee to Compensation Review Committee, Audit Review Committee, Ministry Executive Committees, and AMC Board of Trustees.
- Corporate Officer (Assistant Treasurer) for AMC, Inc. seven other ministry corporations.
- Prepares and presents custom financial reports (including graphs/charts) at select ministry executive committees and AMC Board of Trustees.
- Travels for work-related meetings and on-location ministry visits.
- Bi-annual treasury meetings as planned by the North American Division
- Risk Management Conference
- Spring executive committees & board meetings at the North American Division
- Fall executive committees & board meetings at ministry locations.
- Other travel as needed.
- Conducts research and makes recommendations for various financial, accounting and tax issues.
- Works with sales tax accountant, and occasionally a consultant, in complying with various state and county sales/use tax laws.
- Consult IRS publications and other materials relating to various non-profit business processes and tax issues (i.e. For example – Form 8300 cash deposits over $10,000, Payments to foreign contractors, etc.)
- Researches and develops accounting processes for new GAAP requirements (i.e. Lease accounting, auditor recommendations, etc.)
- Consult with GC and other legal personnel for guidance on complex business issues.
- Aligns financial operations according to corporate structures.
- Promotes adherence to policies and procedures.
- Oversees annual budgeting process for Adventist Media Ministries and Support Services.
- Assists HR Director in determining COLA factors for payroll budgeting.
- Assists HR Director with mileage rate factors for Travel Package
- Obtains insurance factors for payroll budgeting.
- Prepares annual payroll budget in Excel with the use of formulas/macros.
- Advises ministry managers on budget issues as needed.
- Oversees the preparation, input, and reporting of ministry budget data.
- Prepares AMM support services budget.
- Advises NAD on funding increases needed for AMM Support Services.
- Manages all financial audit processes.
- Schedules annual audit with GCAS
- Oversees the completion/signing of audit documents for AMM ministries.
- Oversees preparation of materials for annual financial audit.
- Assists audit personnel with questions & special needs.
- Works with GCAS for Trust Audits and Reviews.
- Initiates and oversees reporting to government agencies.
- Secretary of State registration renewals for Ministry corporations.
- Annual charity returns
- Annual form 990’s
- Annual unrelated business income tax return 990-T
- Annual claims for welfare (property tax) exemption in various counties
- Facilitate application of corporate structure and maintain corporate documents.
- Collaborates with GC Legal, NAD and AMM leadership to assist in maintaining (amending) all articles of incorporation and bylaws.
- Advise ministry leadership/personnel on the use of AMC and Ministry corporation information.
- Helps set appropriate agenda items for board meetings.
- Functions as Office Manager for the Riverside Location
- Directs in the management of landscaping/building maintenance issues.
- Oversees and monitors building access and key distribution.
- Directs and oversees operation of security system.
- Computes and implements cost-sharing for lease expenses.
- Facilitates Building Services Committee agenda and follow through.
- Fulfills other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the North American Division.
Position Specifications
- Qualifications, Scope, and Complexity of Duties:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- Experience: 5+ years accounting experience required
- Certification: MBA or CPA certification desirable
