Job Description Overview: The Adjunct Mechanical/Electrical Instructor will provide high quality instruction over mechanical components, electrical principles, circuits, and controls. They must report and maintain documentation of students progress, attendance, and performance. Performs other duties that are assigned. The Instructor may be required to work with industry to create a customized curriculum that fits their needs and schedule. Must have a strong background working in a mechanical and electrical workplace environment. The Instructor must have a strong passion for teaching, supporting, and preparing students to reach their educational goals.
Job Description Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of content.
- Provide a hands-on training environment.
- Instruct students on mechanical components that apply to machinery.
- Guide students through actual workplace situations and subject matter.
- Educate the students on the importance of preventative maintenance.
- Educate students on machine construction principles, selection of mechanical components, to be able to evaluate the suitability of mechanical drive components and create a lubrication system.
- Performs other duties that are assigned.
- May be required to work with industry to create a customized mechanical and electrical curriculum that fits their needs and schedule.
- Be sure to always supervise all hands-on activities.
- Provide on the job lab assignments to apply to actual future work situations.
- Educate students on basic electrical principles, controls, motor controls, and circuits.
- Educate students on electrical safety practices.
- Introduce students to alternating current and direct current principles, transformers, Ohm’s Law, capacitive and inductive circuit analysis, plant machinery motor control applications, Kirchoff’s Laws, and electrical calculations.
- Educate students on applying Ohm’s Law to electrical calculations.
- Educate students on applying AC/DC theory to motors and controls.
- Educate students on test equipment to measure continuity voltage and current values.
- Provides an engaging, supportive, and positive learning environment.
- Clearly establishes expectations for learning and achievement.
- Communicates well with students and staff.
- Make sure safety measures are always used and the learning environment is safe for all students and staff.
- Plan, develop, teach, and facilitate classes that involve theoretical and hands-on learning where students can gain the knowledge that is needed in the mechanical and electrical workplace.
- Assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, maintain student progress, performance and records.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support program goals and student success.
- Keep track of students attendance, participation, progress and grades.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Mastery of skills in industrial electrical and mechanical fields.
- Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, cooperative, and dependable.
- Great communication skills.
- Must be able to work evenings if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching or training experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- To be able to stand for long periods of time.
- To be able to lift moderate weights of materials, equipment, and supplies.
