Business Need / Purpose of Role:
The Marine Services Manager reporting to the Area General Manager, is responsible of driving the implementation of regional and groupwide projects linked to enhanced Service Delivery. This is a multi-faceted role requiring the ability to coach and mentor to balance strategy and execution while leading a team across an area to achieve Operational Excellence. Achieving the desired results requires developing a team, setting a positive and rewarding culture.
Objectives & Measurement – Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery
- Coaching an area on customer service and working as one unit to address customer’s needs
- Act on escalated customer service matters finding optimal solutions
- Leading a team across the area, motivating, empowering, and delegating in a transparent environment
- Ensure that HSSE regulations are understood, fully incorporated and implemented effectively
Operations
- Guide projects from concept through implementation, interacting with vendors, customers, and corporate leadership
- Participate in recruiting to identify and evaluate employees and internal/external candidates for promotion and hire
- Set clear goals and expectations for team. Measure performance, provide feedback, and hold leaders accountable
- Create an effective / cohesive team and develop talent across the region in partnership with Human Resources.
- Network with other leaders across the company to solicit and share updates and other critical information
- Actively drive dialogues across offices to ensure that goals are being achieved
Financial
- Participate in development of long-term strategies to streamline processes, optimize service, and improve customer experience
- Deliver business growth, engagement and client satisfaction targets for our clients and partners
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Significant operational experience in the shipping industry, with the ability to run a cost-efficient operation across a large geographical area.
- In depth understanding of port agency operations and market dynamics of the shipping industry.
- Excellent understanding of Quality/Compliance & HSSE regulations.
- Excellent work ethic and proven grounding of discretion and confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills including ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple competing priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey issues in a clear, concise and effective manner.
- Ability to lead strong cohesive teams, and to improve individual capabilities through mentorship and training.
- Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Quick thinking and comfortable in working in a fast-paced environment where each day brings new challenges.
- A self-starter; happy to pitch into the day-to-day where necessary.
- Proven ability to implement and manage change.
- Inspirational leader and effective team player, experienced in facilitating collaboration and change in complex organizations.
- Must possess an advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.
Education, Qualifications, Certifications, and Licenses
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Administration, Business Administration, or related major from a public or accredited private academic institution desired.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of Maritime industry with experience in a shipping / port services environment.
- 3 – 5 years of supervisory or management experience required.
- Expertise in international, federal, state and/or local laws, rules and regulations for operations and security (USA & IMO).
Licenses:
- Expected to travel around specific port/terminal locations and surrounding areas and must possess their own reliable transportation, a valid “non-expired” state drivers’ license, and vehicle insurance coverage.
- Once selected for employment, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. The TWIC must be obtained within 30 days of appointment and be maintained for the duration of employment. For further program information, visit: https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
Travel:
- Travel throughout the area on a regular basis, taking the necessary leadership initiatives to be accountable for ensuring that the operations businesses are meeting the HSSE standards, operating safely, delivering the agreed business results and meeting customer and stakeholder expectations.
