About the job:
Position Summary: To provide peer support services to current First Responders and their families. Provide short-term care coordination services as the First Responders and their families navigate the health and human service system of care.
Scheduled Hours and Days: Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Conduct a comprehensive, person-centered screening in accordance with best practices.
- Screen First Responders for safety and risk.
- Conduct comprehensive need and service assessments.
- Coordinate care plans with the First Responders and their family.
- Provide follow-up and monitor referral connections to service delivery.
- Advocate on behalf of the First Responders and their family for access to qualified services that meet their needs.
- Compare correspondence, case notes, narratives, technical reports, notifications, and related documents using computer-based applications.
- Model the attributes of respect, trust, sensitivity, and confidentiality to callers, volunteers, and coworkers.
- Actively participate in ongoing supervision, training, and team meetings
- Attain certification as a Recovery Peer Specialist within 18 months of hire.
- Attain AIRS certification when eligible.
- Attain AAS certification when eligible.
- Build and maintain relationships with respect, trust, sensitivity, and confidentiality with callers, volunteers, coworkers, and community stakeholders.
- Serve and participate in national, state, and local meetings, committees, community activities, and outreach events as required.
- Actively participate in ongoing supervision, training, and team meetings.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. ● Follow all organization’s policies, practices, and procedures.
Qualification/Requirements:

- Excellent verbal communication, customer service, and time management skills. • Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to problem-solve and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Strong data entry skills.
- Proficient personal computer skills including e-mail, recordkeeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Education/Training/Experience
-
- Bachelor’s degree or currently seeking major course work in library science, social work, psychology, education, or another closely related field.
- Paid, or unpaid, peer support experience is a plus. Certified Peer Specialist – First Responder a plus.
- Above-average computer skills; including experience working in Microsoft Office environments is required.
- Experience in working with an I&R database and knowledge of national classification standards (211 LA Taxonomy) is a plus
- Experience working with the First Responder population is highly desirable. ● Health and human services background preferred.
