Delta40, a venture studio dedicated to increasing incomes and addressing climate change in Africa, is spinning out GreenBay as an independent venture, and seeking a sales manager to drive its growth. GreenBay is an innovative digital platform designed to revolutionize the solar and electric appliance market across Africa. Our mission with GreenBay is to create a sustainable, formal online market for second-life, Greentech appliances, starting with solar products and life-changing electric appliances, to increase affordability, reduce environmental impact, and foster a circular economy in the continent’s clean energy sector. By focusing on transparent, cost-effective transactions backed by independent certification and innovative financing solutions, GreenBay aims to accelerate the market’s growth, making clean energy products more accessible, affordable, and environmentally sustainable.
Starting in Nairobi, Kenya, GreenBay’s ambition is to have pan-African reach in the next 5 years. To date, we have launched an MVP (greenbay.market), developed partnerships with appliance manufacturers and second-life retailers to source green appliances, and launched initial sales of electric cooking appliances, washing machines, and solar kits, with research into an EV play.
Position Overview
The marketing consultant at GreenBay will play a pivotal role in shaping the marketing strategy for our platform, which is focused on refurbished green technology appliances. This position is a 6-month contract, requiring a creative, hands-on individual to drive customer acquisition, digital marketing initiatives, and partnerships to expand GreenBay’s reach. The ideal candidate will work closely with the sales team, ensuring alignment of marketing efforts with overall company goals while championing sustainability and climate innovation in Africa.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Sales team to achieve company revenue, sourcing, and sales targets through events, activations, and partnership development.
- Digital Marketing Management: Oversee channels such as Paid Online Marketing (FB, GDN, SEM), CRM (PN, news feed, emails, SMS), and SEO1.
- Budget Optimization: Plan and manage the digital acquisition and retention budget, optimizing its allocation to achieve the highest ROI1.
- Consumer Acquisition: Lead initiatives through performance channels by investing and optimizing the digital acquisition budget1.
- Engagement Strategies: Design and implement strategies to engage and re-activate consumers, segmenting them based on behaviour and lifecycle1.
- Data Analysis: Analyze user behaviour to improve value propositions and drive up overall customer lifetime value (LTV) and retention rates1.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the commercial team to provide customer insights and ensure relevant content for campaigns
- Drive digital marketing efforts, including improving online messaging to attract and engage customers for GreenBay’s products.
- Conduct thorough market research to identify opportunities and gaps in the market.
- Generate and nurture leads to build lasting client relationships, ensuring a robust pipeline of potential customers.
- Lead, mentor, and continuously develop the marketing team to ensure the use of effective tactics and high levels of customer service.
- Manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for marketing activities and sourcing initiatives.
- Gather and provide updates on customer feedback, helping the team to adjust strategies for improved customer satisfaction and experience.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of proven success in a marketing role, preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment.
- Experience: Previous experience in a similar role, with a focus on digital marketing and budget management
- Strong experience in digital marketing, partnerships, lead generation, and market research.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve ambitious targets.
- A passion for sustainability and climate innovation in Africa.
