Buffalo Bicycle Limited also offers users repair and maintenance services via a retail network of shops and local mechanics. WBR has distributed over 760,000 fit-for-purpose bicycles and trained 2,700+ community-based mechanics. Girls with Buffalo Bicycles are 19% less likely to drop out of school; dairy farmers earn 23% more income; and health workers reach 88% more patients.
Purpose of the Position
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in World Bicycle Relief’s Global Finance team, ensuring accurate financial reporting and adherence to accounting principles. This role will provide critical support for the monthly close, financial consolidations, and analysis while helping maintain the organization’s financial health. As part of a mission-driven global organization, the Senior Accountant will also contribute to improving accounting processes and upholding compliance with nonprofit regulations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manages the monthly general ledger close process for our non profit entities, ensuring all journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports are completed accurately and on time.
- Prepares and presents detailed financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Support global financial consolidation process and intercompany reconciliations.
- Ensures compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits and provide supporting documentation as needed.
- Prepares and reconciles financial reports for restricted grants, ensuring compliance with grant agreements and timely reporting.
- Assists with preparation and filing of tax returns and other nonprofit-related compliance filings.
- Identifies and implements improvements to accounting processes, controls, and procedures. Ensure proper documentation and controls are in place.
- Oversees payment processing (ACH, wire transfers, checks).
- Assists in training and mentoring junior accounting staff and provides ongoing support for their professional development.
- Supports the Controller and Executive Director of Finance with special financial projects, budgeting processes, and other finance-related tasks.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP standards required
- Nonprofit accounting standards experience a plus
- Experience with month-end close processes and financial statement preparation
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting software
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams, cultures, and time zones.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet close and filing deadlines in a dynamic environment

Travel Required: May require travel to Chicago or other domestic locations up to three times a year for team meetings and internationally one time a year
