About the job:
About Quantum Brilliance
Quantum Brilliance is the world leader in room-temperature quantum computing using synthetic diamonds. Our unique vision is to make quantum computing available as an everyday technology, from data centres to remote and mobile systems like autonomous robots and satellites. In contrast to quantum computers that fill a room, we are developing quantum accelerators with more compute power than a classical supercomputer but in a form factor smaller than a lunchbox.
Founded in 2019 by leaders in diamond quantum science from the Australian National University, we are a full-stack quantum computing company. An Australia-German company, our HQs are in Canberra and Stuttgart, with additional locations across eastern Australia and southern Germany. We are working with global technology leaders to develop quantum computing applications, integrate quantum with high-performance computing, solve materials science challenges and develop ultra-precise semiconductor manufacturing and quantum control techniques. We are backed by leading venture capital funds and major research and technology institutes.
Overview:
Within our diamond fabrication team, we are looking for a Senior R&D Materials Engineer with Project Management experience in industry or Tech Startup environment. This role will support R&D planning, execution and reporting to timely reach challenging milestones for our controlled NV diamonds fabrication roadmap.
Mission :
You will design and manage R&D projects for the fabrication of NV-diamonds in our in-house designed microwave plasma-assisted CVD reactors, to optimize growth of intrinsic and doped single-crystal diamond layers, diamond surface treatments and support the fabrication controlled NV arrays.
The role will be based in our labs located at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) in Freiburg im Breisgau, where you will work closely with a highly-skilled team of diamond scientists and process engineers to solve technical challenges to meet challenging milestones. The role offers the unique experience of undertaking world-class research in an environment with a strong commercial purpose. Working language is English.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support R&D diamond growth (CVD) and materials characterization team.
- Project planning, de-risking and reporting to support the Company roadmap.
- Supports effective resource allocation and time management.
- Interface with external partners, suppliers and services.
- Provide mentorship to technicians or young process Engineers, actively contributing to their professional growth and development.
- Contribute to strategic IP and knowledge database.
- Represent the Company at international events.
About You
- PhD in Physics, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or similar discipline.
- academic and industry background in process engineering and materials science.
- hands-on experience with complex UHV setups.
- Good understanding of materials characterisation techniques (e.g. Raman spectroscopy, AFM, XRD, XPS, SIMS).
- Familiar with working in a project environment (e.g. in a publicly funded project or commercial projects).
- Excellent teamworking and collaborative skills
- Excited about emerging technologies and working in a start-up company
- Knowledge in quantum technologies, synthetic diamonds and NV physics is a plus
- English language skills are required
Please provide your application (CV / Cover Letter etc) in English
